What’s really important today

newtown-ribbonI look at all the squabbling between left and right, religious and non-religious, political party vs. political party… and all I can think about?

I was in Newtown, Connecticut a year ago. Twenty little beds would be empty, that night. Twenty tiny caskets would follow. Six beautiful women’s families would mourn. And I wonder why we can’t focus on what’s really important. Not power. Not position. Not being right. But loving each other. Accepting different views and vulnerabilities. Agreeing that someone might be different, but that’s OK. Because we all love our families. Want them to be safe. Want them to have a future. Want them to be loved. Maybe if we look at the world in THAT light, things would be better.
